On Monday 8th October 2018, the Victorian State Government announced that an Environmental Effects Statement (EES) would be required for the AGL Gas Import Jetty Project and the APA Crib Point to Pakenham Gas Pipeline Project. The EES will investigate the potential environmental, community and cultural impacts of the project including impacts on native vegetation, wildlife, marine life and Aboriginal cultural heritage.

The Victorian Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (usually called DELWP) has been working on the Draft Scoping Requirements to decide what the Environmental Effects Statement will cover. This is separate from the Federal Government EPBC Act process that many of us wrote submissions for last month.

The Draft Scoping Requirements for the EES were released on Monday November 26. The public now has 15 business days to comment on the draft report. This will be our first opportunity to have a say about what will be included in the Victorian government’s assessment of the AGL proposal to import and process LNG at Crib Point.

Public submissions on the Draft Scoping Requirements are open from 26 November 2018 until 5:00pm on 19 December 2018.

To ensure that your concerns about the proposed AGL/APA projects are investigated during the EES process, please read the details of the Draft Scoping Requirements document carefully. Look for any errors but more importantly, try to find areas of concern that are missing or appear to not be fully addressed.

Save Westernport will analyse the Draft Scoping Requirements and Technical Reference Group (TRG) and provide a sample submission on our website soon.
