The Hearings on the AGL EES concluded on Dec 17 after two months of evidence from expert witnesses and submissions from the EPA, AGL, the local Shire Councils and the joint Environment Group.
The Inquiry Advisory Panel also heard countless submissions from dedicated lovers of Westernport who told the five member panel why this dangerous and unnecessary gas project must not go ahead.
The Planning Minister is due to make a decision in February, after considering the recommendations of a specially formed Planning Panel that oversaw the recent hearing in November and December. Many wonderful submissions were made by members of our community. Listen to some of them here.
Our community’s long-held and determined opposition was supported by evidence that emerged at the Planning Panels hearing. The detail of countless environmental impacts was made even more shocking by the news that —despite all of AGL’s claims—according to their predictions, their gas import proposal will not be even necessary ‘to provide for Victoria’s energy future’ for at least a decade.
Surely that allows us plenty of time for the energy transition we all know we need to have?
